Did you attend York SHRM’s Diversity Panel Discussion in May of this year?
Are you prepared to pursue good faith efforts in recruiting to fill 7% of job openings by individuals with disabilities?
We all probably know of individuals with intellectual disabilities and have seen them working at the local grocery store, fast food restaurant, or working in various other jobs out in the community. Perhaps you even have someone in your own office with a disability. Many of us can relate to this, and with the new efforts to fill 7% of job openings with individuals with disabilities, York SHRM decided this year to create a training session for those employees who will be working directly with these individuals at your company. What sort of training do you have in place at your organization to ease the transition of your employees when an individual with disabilities is brought into your workplace? Do you know what criteria must be met in order to be classified as disabled? Do your employees understand what it means to have a disability, and how to ask for reasonable accommodations?
After surveying our membership, we realized that there is a big need to train the front line supervisors or other managers who are not in human resources but will be working daily with these individuals.
Do you currently have an organizational culture that embraces diversity, no matter what disabilities your employees have? Come to this training session and learn about this, and how to answer the basic questions and concerns your employees may have with working in the new diversified organization. We will also share success stories from local York companies and how they were able to create the optimal diversified culture at their company.
Please contact Meredith Stone, mstone@penn-mar.org for questions.
